About the Event
The Ride of Silence is an annual international bicycle ride to commemorate cyclists killed and support those injured while riding on public roads. It helps to raise awareness among motorists, the public and decision makers of the dangers cyclists face on the roads, especially from other traffic. Join us in riding to remember those that have been impacted. Due to COVID-19, we will not be riding as a group but invite you to do a solo ride to honor those that have been impacted. The suggested guidelines are as follows:
-Select your own 9 mile route or whatever distance you are comfortable riding
-wear a helmet
-wear a black arm band (optional)
-generate your own sign for the back of your jersey with the following proposed verbiage options: "Ride of Silence" or "Share the Road" or "Remember Fallen Cyclists"
-conduct pre-ride safety check, i.e. ABC Quick Check
-ride solo or with 1-2 friends, with family member(s) or on an indoor stationary bike
-maintain appropriante social distancing where necessary -no talking during the ride
-maintain a low speed (10-12mph)
-comply with traffic laws
-read the Ride of Silence Poem below before riding
"Tonight we number many but ride as one
In honor of those not with us, friends, mothers, father, sisters, sons
With helmets on tight and heads down low,
We ride in silence, cautious and slow
The wheels start spinning in the lead pack
But tonight we ride and no one attacks
The dark sunglasses cover our tears
Remembering those we held so dear
Tonight’s ride is to make others aware
The road is there for all to share
To those not with us or by our side,
May God be our partner on your final ride."
