KABC Ladies, do you know how to repair a flat tube or replace the tire on your favorite bike? Or, on the other hand, is tube changing a process mysterious or intimidating to you? Would you like to be more confident in your tire and tube changing skills? If so, you are in luck, help is on the way!

About the Event

KABC is sponsoring a series of tire/tube changing clinics free to KABC members. The first clinic is for KABC ladies and will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 9:00 a.m. in the Barker Extension Soccer Field Parking Lot at 160 Mitchelville Rd., Hilton Head Island.
The clinic will include discussion - over coffee and cookies - of a few relevant topics that will help explain the tube change sequence. The discussion will be followed by a "hands on" clinic where you will have the opportunity to perform tube changes on your bike with your own equipment.
First Come, First Served
To ensure that participants are afforded appropriate attention, clinic class size will be limited to twelve riders. KABC will hold additional clinics as necessary until all riders are provided opportunity to attend a clinic. If your schedule is not compatible with the first clinic, please watch for the next clinic announcement and register then.
- Learn what to keep in your saddle bag - Understand and confidently use relevant terminology - Understand and properly use tire/tube changing tools - Understand rim and tire interface, and why it's important
Clinic Objectives
- Patience and a sense of humor- Understand the placement and importance of rim tape in preventing flats - Learn to remove and re-mount front and rear wheels in a flat-tire situation - Know how to unseat a tire from the rim; remove a punctured tube; replace punctured tube with a good tube; and reseat the tire. - Learn to use a CO2 inflator, floor pump, and frame pump
What You Should Wear- Old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, oily, greasy. You will get dirt, oil, and grease on your hands.
What You Should Bring(Bring the following Items if you have them, and if not, we'll sort it out at the clinic)
- A portable folding chair - Your bike with your saddle bag - Tire changing kit/tools including tire change levers - Floor pump (air pump) and/or CO2 inflation kit - An old bath towel or blanket (to protect your bike when you turn it upside down on the ground) - A rag to wipe your hands - Disposable rubber gloves (optional) - If you have disc brakes without a quick release hub, bring the small hex wrench that came with your bike to remove your wheels - If your wheels don’t have quick release levers, but are held on with nuts and bolts, bring correct wrenches to remove your wheels.
